About the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care & Pain Medicine
Physicians in NYU Langone Health’s Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care, and Pain Medicine create personalized anesthesiology treatment plans, administer analgesics and sedation, and provide physiological monitoring during and after all types of surgery and interventional procedures. We also offer individualized pain assessments and comprehensive treatment regimens to patients with transient, acute, and chronic pain.
Our faculty work with general surgeons, neurosurgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists and neurologists, obstetricians, orthopedists, critical care specialists, oncologists, rehabilitation specialists, and palliative care experts, among others, to ensure our evidence-based treatment enhances the wellbeing and provides pain relief for all patients. Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) are an integral part of our department’s anesthesia care team. Our diverse CRNA staff of more than 50 specializes in all aspects of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative anesthesiology. They are trained in a wide range of subspecialties and collaborate with our physicians to provide care to a variety of high acuity patients.
To further advance the field of anesthesiology, our faculty conduct basic and clinical research. Our department provides medical student training, an Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care, and Pain Medicine Residency, and several one-year fellowships.
Our department consists of six divisions, each of which reflects the various anesthesiology subspecialties.
