Thoracic Surgery Clinical Services

At NYU Langone’s Division of Thoracic Surgery, our surgeons use advanced surgical techniques to treat many different thoracic conditions, including non-small cell lung cancer, benign conditions of the lung and airway, esophageal cancer, mesothelioma, myasthenia gravis, thymomas, benign esophageal conditions, and more.

Working together with the Lung Cancer Center at Perlmutter Cancer Center, our experienced team treats a wide range of lung cancers, including those associated with poor survival rates.

Specialists at our CTEPH program perform pulmonary thromboendarterectomy surgery to treat chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. In addition, experts at our Tracheal and Bronchial Disorders Treatment Program provide advanced surgical care to manage tracheal and bronchial carcinoids, tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), tracheal stenosis, and tracheoesophageal fistula. Our thoracic surgeons also collaborate with vascular experts to perform robotic-assisted first rib resection at NYU Langone’s Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Program.

Our robotic surgical team has performed more than 3,000 robotic thoracic procedures, including esophagectomy, lobectomy, segmentectomy, and thymectomy. Visiting surgeons from around the world have come to NYU Langone to observe our surgeons as they perform complex procedures, and to learn about advanced surgical techniques as well as leadership and team-building skills.

Leader in Lung Transplant Surgery

We provide single- or double-lung transplant for people ages 12 and older with chronic, end-stage lung disease. Our one-year patient survival is the best in the Northeast, and our patients spend less time on the waitlist than at any other hospital in New York State.
