Division of General Obstetrics & Gynecology

Physicians in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology, part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Langone Health, provide comprehensive, safe, and expert care to all patients.

Led by division director Andrew F. Rubenstein, MD, our mission is to promote health and wellness for all. Our focus is on preventive care and a collaborative approach to treatment of the whole person. We understand that each individual is unique and has specific health goals. Our approach includes explaining each step of care so that patients can be actively involved in decision-making, whether they are here for a routine annual exam, contraception, prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, or treatment related to issues such as abnormal Pap test results, pelvic pain, or menopausal symptoms.

Our Role in Education

Our generalist obstetrician–gynecologists provide education and training for medical students, residents, and fellows.

Training for Medical Students

Medical students gain hands-on experience during rotations in our operating rooms and clinical offices and on the labor and delivery floors at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. We also provide didactic and simulation-based education. Learn more about our educational opportunities for medical students.

Training for Residents

We oversee residents during their clinical training as they rotate through Tisch Hospital, Bellevue, and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. Because these are teaching hospitals, residents are involved in every aspect of patient care in labor and delivery, the emergency room, operating rooms, and clinics.

Our generalist preceptors meet with residents in small groups to review patient cases and provide mentoring. We also offer physicians-in-training formal didactics, lectures, journal clubs, and opportunities to meet one-on-one about career development. Learn more about our Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency.

Training for Fellows

Physicians in our division interact with and support fellows as they receive training in their specialized fields. Learn more about our fellowship programs.

Our Role in Research

Our physicians conduct research on topics such as postpartum depression and the training of obstetrician–gynecologists, with an emphasis on medical student education and preventing physician burnout.

Our Role in Patient Care

Our generalist obstetricians provide evidence-based, patient-centered care for both low- and high-risk pregnancies. Learn more about our family-focused approach for new and expecting parents. Our generalist gynecologists use the same approach to provide high-quality care for a full range of gynecologic issues, including pelvic pain, abnormal Pap test results, family planning, endometriosis, menstrual disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, menopause, and uterine fibroids.

Our Faculty
