Center for Quality & Patient Safety
The Center for Quality and Patient Safety was established by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in order to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care. In order to achieve this mission, we have developed a robust quality and patient safety infrastructure. All of our efforts are aligned and facilitated by NYU Langone Health’s commitment to quality. To fulfill our vision, we perform research and educate professionals and patients on the importance of quality and patient safety in the delivery of healthcare.
The center occupies a leadership role both within NYU Langone and on a national scale in addressing issues of quality and safety. Through our research and peer education initiatives, clinicians both inside and outside the institution benefit from the programs and knowledge being developed at NYU Langone, including at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
We are guided by our mission, vision, and core values:
- Our mission is to use research and education to advance the quality and safety of care for all patients.
- Our vision is to be recognized as a global leader in quality and patient safety for musculoskeletal care.
- Our core values are collaboration, leadership, and education.
A System Wide Quality Infrastructure
NYU Langone has transformed itself from an urban academic medical center to a health care system. We have expanded our quality efforts and infrastructure to ensure that all our clinical sites have the same quality standards and are inculcated into NYU Langone’s quality culture. This new system encompasses multiple sites including Langone Orthopedic Hospital (LOH), NYU Langone Brooklyn (NYUBK), NYU Long Island (NYULI) and Long Island Community Hospital (LICH). An essential component of this system is a uniform quality and safety standard. This requires coordination and communication between all of our care sites.
Each of our subspecialties have selected a quality designee not only for their division but also for each respective location (LOH, NYU Brooklyn, NYU Long Island, Long Island Community Hospital). These individuals work with our quality team to further enhance our initiatives.
