Medical Physics Therapy Residency
NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Medical Physics Therapy Residency is a two-year therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP). Our program considers two types of eligible applicants. The first type of applicant should have a degree from a CAMPEP-accredited MS or PhD graduate program in medical physics prior to the start of residency. The second type of applicant should have a PhD in physics or in a related discipline and must complete a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program prior to the start of the residency program.
Our residents receive training at three different locations in New York City: NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center, Tisch Hospital, and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. The program is run by the Department of Radiation Oncology. Our faculty include internationally recognized physician–scientists and physicists who train residents to be leaders in the field and prepare them for careers in a clinical, industry, or academic setting.
As a resident, you train on the latest medical equipment and develop proficiency in a range of radiation therapies and quality assurance procedures, from conventional to cutting edge. Our residents learn advanced techniques including stereotactic body radiation therapy using a linear accelerator or CyberKnife, intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery with a Gamma Knife Icon, total body irradiation, four-dimensional CT, and a full range of image-based brachytherapy. In addition to clinical training, you are given the opportunity to build skills associated with other major aspects of professional practice, including teaching and research.
