Urology Residency Application Information

Each year NYU Grossman School of Medicine accepts four residents into its Urology Residency. We participate in the American Urological Association match process and accept applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®). Applications must be submitted by September 15 before the first postgraduate year (PGY-1 year).

U.S. Medical Licensing Examination Scores

We have no minimum score requirement on the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®); however, students accepted into our program typically score above the 90th percentile. You must pass USMLE® Step 1 before you apply to the program and USMLE® Step 2 before graduating medical school and beginning residency.

Application Review

Each application is reviewed by our program director as well as an admissions committee made up of faculty members and residents. Applicants are selected for an interview based on the following criteria:

  • a CV, including research in medical school; presentations at local, national, and international meetings; Alpha Omega Alpha membership; and other extracurricular activities and interests
  • performance in medical school
  • performance on the USMLE®
  • letters of recommendation
  • personal statement
