Diversity in Medical Education Health Equity Summer Fellowship

Health Equity Summer Fellowship

The Health Equity Summer Research Fellowship teaches medical students about inequities in health and healthcare and helps them develop skills that promote health equity.

Despite the significant diagnostic and therapeutic advances seen in the past 20 years, equity in health outcomes related to race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, income, and education persist. The fellowship prepares physicians-in-training to identify and address such inequities in practicing 21st-century medicine.

The program includes a didactic component, a mentored research project, and opportunities for community engagement. The Office of Diversity Affairs offers six weeks of financial support for up to five qualified NYU Grossman School of Medicine students who are between their first and second years of undergraduate study. This support is generously provided by TULA Skincare, founded by Roshini Rajapaksa, MD.

How to Apply

First-year medical students at NYU Grossman School of Medicine must apply through the Summer Research Fellowship (SRF) program managed by the Office of Medical Education. The SRF is a six-week program (35 hours per week) running from June to July.

Please note that this SRF has a special application process.

Additional details on the SRF application process and how students will be matched with a mentor can be found on the Areas of Concentration Brightspace page.
