Residency & Faculty Diversity Recruitment
We bolster diversity at residency, faculty, and leadership levels by actively recruiting individuals from groups that are underrepresented in medicine and encouraging them to apply for employment.
Overwhelming scientific evidence shows that unconscious bias may influence the evaluation and selection of candidates in all types of organizations, including medical schools and teaching hospitals. We follow guidelines provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges to help academic medicine search committees mitigate the effects of unconscious bias.
The Office of Diversity Affairs and several of our residency programs host a diversity reception for residency candidates. Participating programs include those in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine and the Departments of Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Pediatrics.
We also conduct residency diversity outreach at conferences for the Student National Medical Association and the Latino Medical Student Association.
We conduct unconscious bias training for faculty and hospital departments to assist in the faculty hiring and resident selection processes. Departmental diversity ambassadors help facilitate trainings and are a resource for hospital departments.
