Department of Radiation Oncology

NYU Langone Health’s Department of Radiation Oncology provides outstanding care to patients and trains the next generation of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and research scientists. We offer residencies in radiation oncology and medical physics therapy, and provide training for medical students.
Our team includes radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, medical physicists, medical dosimetrists, nurses, and nurse practitioners who are leaders in the field, and we work closely with medical oncologists and surgeons as part of the specialized and comprehensive care offered at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center.
We are deeply focused on research and collaborate closely with our colleagues at Perlmutter Cancer Center on clinical and translational research in our new, fully equipped research laboratory. Our research goal is to enhance the effectiveness of existing radiation therapy treatments and find novel ways to treat cancer. Our clinical research faculty also lead innovative clinical trials aimed at developing novel treatments that provide more options to our patients.
We are committed to delivering the highest-quality clinical services to patients and providing the most advanced radiation therapy technology and techniques. Our radiation oncologists helped pioneer prone breast external beam radiation therapy to treat breast cancer. This treatment directs radiation at the tumor from outside the body in a prone, or facedown, position, which allows for better distribution of the radiation dose and avoids contact with nearby organs, especially the heart. Using the latest linear accelerators and CT simulators, we can deliver radiation therapy with great precision and minimize damage to healthy tissue when treating all types of cancers.
