Advanced Surgery Clerkship

NYU Langone’s Department of Surgery offers an Advanced Surgery Clerkship to NYU Grossman School of Medicine students who have completed the Surgical Core Clerkship and who have an interest in general surgery or a surgical subspecialty. Students from other institutions may apply for the General Surgery Subinternship Elective for visiting students only.

The Advanced Surgery Clerkship fulfills the subinternship graduation requirement for students applying for a residency in general surgery or another surgical specialty.

During the clerkship, students are assigned to one of our general surgery services for a four-week block:

  • colon and rectal surgery
  • general surgery
  • hepatopancreatobiliary surgery
  • minimally invasive surgery
  • surgical oncology
  • trauma and acute care surgery
  • vascular surgery

Students apply to the clerkship through a lottery held prior to the academic year.
