NYU Fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery(FPMRS)

Program Description/Overview

The NYU fellowship program in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery is a uniquely combined training program with fellows from both urology and ob/gyn working together with FPMRS board certified faculty from both disciplines. Our fellowship program is fully accredited by the ACGME and we accept both Ob/Gyn and Urology trained residents. Thus the program offers a fully integrated multidisciplinary approach which includes an emphasis on integrative, medical, surgical and physiatry approaches to common problems encountered in female pelvic medicine. We are approved for a total of 3 fellows, and we strive to have both Urology-trained and Ob/Gyn-trained fellows in the program at all times. Therefore depending on the specific fellow complement, some years we will specifically seek to match a 2-year (Urology) position, while in other years we may specifically seek to match a 3-year (Ob/Gyn) position, and in some years it may be either (or both).

The NYU FPMRS fellowship focuses on clinical training as well as clinical and translational research to enhance the field of female pelvic medicine and to prepare graduates for either clinical or academic practice.

Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of FPMRS at the NYU School of Medicine (NYUSOM) is to advance the practice and science of medicine through compassionate and state-of-the-art patient care, innovative clinical and translational research, and fellow, resident, medical student and postgraduate education.

The FPMRS fellows play an integral role in the realization of the FPMRS mission. The faculty view fellows as co-partners in the quest to provide the highest caliber of care to our patients. Providing state-of-the-art and compassionate care in FPMRS requires compulsive and thoughtful integration of clinical data, compassionate interactions with patients and their families, and superb technical expertise. The commitment to provide excellence in patient care must never be compromised. The FPMRS faculty is dedicated to provide our fellows and residents from Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology with the intellectual, surgical and clinical skills that are prerequisite for the delivery of the highest standard of care. The FPMRS fellows are expected to actively participate in the clinical research activities that are ongoing in the division and in the Departments of Urology and Obstetrics & Gynecology. It is through this participation that the fellows gain an appreciation for the scientific method. The FPMRS fellows are expected to function in the capacity of both student and teacher. The fellows serve as teachers and role models for residents and medical students rotating on the FPMRS service.
