Regional Fellowship Description

The NYU Langone Medical Center Regional Anesthesia fellowship is a Non-ACGME one year program intended to train physicians to safely and efficiently employ regional anesthesia techniques in their future practice. Our goal is to produce excellent clinicians with superior technical skills, an understanding of the current state of knowledge, and the ability to become future teachers and leaders in the field.

Clinical training will primarily occur at the NYULMC Hospital for Joint Diseases, a leading center for the treatment of orthopedic disease. There the fellow, under the guidance of our diverse and dynamic staff, will gain proficiency in providing surgical anesthesia and postoperative analgesia for orthopedic procedures. Fellows will also rotate at our ambulatory orthopedic surgical center, as well as at the NYULMC flagship hospital, Tisch hospital, allowing fellows the opportunity to apply regional anesthesiology to the gamut of surgical specialties.

Didactics include a monthly lecture series on important topics in regional anesthesia, as well as a CME accredited Grand Rounds/Case Conference. Monthly journal clubs are held and the fellow will have the opportunity to supervise the presentations of junior residents.

Involvement in research is strongly encouraged and fellows will have time to either begin an original project under the supervision of a staff anesthesiologist or to participate in an ongoing project. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in academic endeavors, such as book chapters or poster presentations, and may attend one conference of their choice.

Applications are accepted January 1st to June 30th each year for the following year’s program.  Interviews are conducted late July through early August. Candidates are expected to have completed an ACGME accredited anesthesiology residency and to be board certified or board eligible.

Interested applicants should send the following to our program coordinator, Pamela Shaw  Pamela.Shaw@nyulangone.org
