Center for Human Genetics & Genomics Available Positions

The Center for Human Genetics and Genomics is looking for accomplished scientists to join our team.

For general inquiries about available positions, please email Aravinda Chakravarti, PhD, center director, at Aravinda.Chakravarti@NYULangone.org.

Available positions under the supervision of Dr. Hakhamanesh Mostafavi, PhD

The lab led under the direction of Dr. Hakhamanesh Mostafavi at the Center for Human Genetics and Genomics at NYU School of Medicine is seeking postdoctoral candidates to study the genetics and biology of human complex traits and diseases. Our major research areas include:

  • Understanding the genetic basis of complex traits and diseases, and
  • Developing improved methods for disease risk prediction based on genetics.

Successful candidates will conceptualize, design, and lead projects based on their interests and expertise under the supervision of Dr. Mostafavi. You will:

  • Develop novel statistical and conceptual frameworks, and/or
  • Analyze large-scale human genetic and functional datasets to extract biological insights from genetic associations and improve genetic risk models.

Additionally, you are expected to contribute to writing grant proposals and mentoring graduate students and other junior lab members.

Preferred candidates will have expertise in human genetics, population genetics, computational biology, statistics, or related quantitative fields. Selection criteria include demonstrated proficiency in independent research, advanced programming skills (e.g., Python, R), experience with high-performance or cloud computing, and analyzing large genetic datasets.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The applicant should have a strong interest in understanding the genetic and biological mechanisms underlying complex traits.

To apply, please contact Dr. Mostafavi at Hakhamanesh.Mostafavi@NYULangone.org with your CV and a brief description of your research interests and plans.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive group, and we welcome members from a wide range of scientific backgrounds, regardless of cultural background, national origin, race, sex, sexual identity, sexual orientation, or disability status.
