Lerner Health Promotion Program’s Healthy Mondays for Hospitals

The Lerner Health Promotion Program’s Healthy Mondays for Hospitals initiative is an extension of the widely recognized Monday Campaigns, a public health movement dedicated to reducing the incidence of preventable diseases.

Founded by the late Sid Lerner, a former advertising executive, the Monday Campaigns leverages the "fresh start" mindset associated with Mondays, a time when individuals are most open to making positive health changes. Since the inception of “Meatless Mondays” in 2003, the initiative has expanded to address various health-related behaviors, including smoking cessation, nutrition, physical activity, and stress management.

NYU Langone Health leaders participate in the Monday Mile, a weekly initiative encouraging staff to adopt healthy habits with walks through our Manhattan campus.

Building Healthy Habits, One Monday at a Time

Healthy Mondays for Hospitals brings the power of evidence-based practices directly into the hospital environment, recognizing the unique challenges and needs of healthcare systems. By aligning with both the social and physical environments of hospitals, this initiative provides a range of whole-person health promotion tools and resources designed to support hospital employees, patients, and their loved ones. These resources focus on key areas such as stress and sleep management, physical activity, and nutrition, offering accessible strategies to encourage sustainable, long-term, healthy habits.
