Training the next generation of scientists to solve complex problems in environmental health sciences is essential to keeping our communities safe. In the Division of Environmental Medicine at NYU Langone, our graduate programs cover a range of specialties and prepare students to excel as investigators and professionals.

We also welcome postdoctoral researchers in our laboratories. Postdocs who would like to find out more about open positions can email the faculty researcher they are interested in working with.

Graduate Training in Ergonomics and Biomechanics

We also administer the PhD program in ergonomics and biomechanics offered through NYU Langone Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center. This innovative program is the only accredited degree program that combines the fields of ergonomics and biomechanics.

Financial Support for Graduate Students

All full-time PhD students engaged in laboratory research programs receive graduate assistant stipends plus full tuition and fees. In the 2025–26 academic year, stipends were $43,000.

How to Apply

Applicants to the PhD program in ergonomics and biomechanics must complete the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science online application.

All applications require the following documents:

• Official academic transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions
• Three letters of recommendation
• Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (optional for 2026–27 applicants)
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (international students only)
