The Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation, part of NYU Langone's Department of Medicine, is a dedicated, diverse community of general internists who practice primary care across our health system.

In recent years, our division has embraced transformative opportunities that are reshaping clinical practice, education, and research. We have become national leaders in implementing and evaluating innovative technologies—including telehealth, remote monitoring, team‑based care models, and the thoughtful use of generative artificial intelligence (AI)—to enhance patient care, reduce clinician burden, and expand access in diverse care settings.

At the same time, we remain steadfast in our core mission to improve the health of patients across ambulatory and community‑based settings with practical, scalable strategies. As educators, we continue to prepare the next generation of clinicians, investigators, and educators through renowned primary care and community health residency tracks, innovative simulation programs, and comprehensive educational initiatives that include advanced telehealth skills training, AI‑enhanced assessment tools, and expanded objective structured clinical examinations. Through the Program for Medical Education Innovations and Research (PrMEIR), our faculty are advancing rigorous scholarship on communication, diagnostic excellence, empathy, clinical reasoning, and professional identity formation, ensuring that our educational programs translate directly into improved patient outcomes.

As clinicians, we provide the highest-quality care at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital; NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue; NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur; NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn; the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System; and the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, along with numerous faculty group practices and community‑based sites. Our faculty lead pioneering initiatives in lifestyle medicine, addiction medicine, obesity treatment, and care for individuals experiencing housing insecurity, while supporting major public health programs such as the World Trade Center Health Program.

As researchers, our funded research portfolio includes obesity and nutrition, diabetes prevention, hypertension, substance use disorders, HIV prevention, digital health equity, and implementation science. Our faculty remain at the forefront of national efforts to understand how medical education influences patient care through AI-enhanced assessment, standardized patient programs, and new measures linking educational practices to outcomes.

We hope that the many rich clinical, educational, and research programs showcased throughout our division help convey the depth, innovation, and collaborative spirit that define the Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation.
