Our Psychiatry Residency, led by Deepti Anbarasan, MD, director, and Liliya Gershengoren, MD, associate program director, provides you with exceptional clinical, academic, research, and scholarship opportunities. NYU Langone is unsurpassed in the breadth of its patient care and clinical teaching sites. As a resident, you interact with diverse inpatient clinical populations at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Psychiatry Associates, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System.

You also rotate through the 125th Street Clinic of the Manhattan Psychiatric Center, the Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, the South Beach Psychiatric Center, and the Manhattan clinic of the Counseling and Wellness Services at NYU. During these rotations, you are supervised by our faculty, which includes world-class basic scientists, clinical researchers, and clinician–educators.

You can explore some of our key clinical rotation sites through a virtual tour.

VIDEO: Residents in the Department of Psychiatry receive comprehensive training that includes rotations in diverse clinical sites and units, research opportunities, and an in-depth didactic curriculum.

Along with gaining the clinical and academic experiences required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), our residents contribute to a wide variety of scholarship, assisted by mentors. We strongly support your academic interests during training, and we advocate for your pursuit of research, fellowships, as well as grants. Two scholarship tracks exist if you are interested in pursuing a career in academic psychiatry or in gaining specialized clinical expertise in the second through fourth years of residency.

If you plan to pursue an academic career as a principal investigator in basic or clinical research, we offer research tracks featuring high-level mentorship and individualized training. This is designed as a pathway to postdoctoral funding through National Institutes of Health (NIH) Career Development Awards or VA Career Development Awards, among others. These tracks offer specialized stipend and laboratory support for up to three residents with MD/PhD backgrounds who are committed to basic and translational research careers and exhibit strong potential to serve as principal investigators on NIH grants.

Our program is unparalleled in its capacity to provide training at all levels of the healthcare delivery system. We are renowned for our commitment to providing the best clinical care to people from all socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures in an environment that is dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and research.

We are privileged to educate the next generation of psychiatrists and welcome your interest in training at NYU Langone.

Residency Inclusion Statement

NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Psychiatry Residency is deeply committed to a community of faculty and residents enriched by diversity along a number of dimensions including race, ethnicity, and national origins, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomic background.

Vital to our mission is appreciation for the experience, skills, and perspectives of all corners of humanity as we strive for excellence together.
