VIDEO: Residents in the Department of Psychiatry receive comprehensive training that includes rotations in a variety of clinical sites and units, unparalleled research opportunities, and an in-depth didactic curriculum.

Along with gaining the clinical and academic experiences required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), our residents contribute to a wide variety of scholarly activities, assisted by mentors. We strongly support your academic interests during training, and we advocate for your pursuit of research, fellowships, as well as grants. Two scholarship tracks exist if you are interested in pursuing a career in academic psychiatry or in gaining specialized clinical expertise in the second through fourth years of residency.

If you plan to pursue an academic career as a principal investigator in basic or clinical research, we offer research tracks featuring high-level mentorship and individualized training. This is designed as a pathway to postdoctoral funding through National Institutes of Health (NIH) Career Development Awards or VA Career Development Awards, among others. These tracks offer specialized stipend and laboratory support for up to two residents annually with MD/PhD backgrounds who are committed to basic and translational research careers and exhibit strong potential to serve as principal investigators on NIH grants.

Our program is unparalleled in its capacity to provide training at all levels of the healthcare delivery system. We are renowned for our commitment to providing the best clinical care to all individuals in the New York City community in an environment that is dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and research. in an environment that is dedicated to teaching, scholarship, and research.
