Division of Pediatric Surgery
NYU Langone Health’s Division of Pediatric Surgery, in the Department of Surgery, is dedicated to outstanding patient care, clinical research that improves outcomes and standards of care, and educating the next generation of pediatric surgeons.
Our pediatric surgical faculty serve as leaders for multiple clinical programs and quality initiatives through Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone. We foster the close collaborations with pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists that are essential for providing excellent surgical care to all children.
We are participants in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Pediatric, enabling us to maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and clinical outcomes for all surgical patients.
Pediatric Surgery Research
Research is an integral part of our division’s mission. Our faculty are actively involved in basic science, clinical, educational, and informatics-based research that advances the field and improves outcomes and quality of life for children who require surgery.
Training Opportunities in the Division of Pediatric Surgery
Two general surgery residents, one in postgraduate year four (PGY-4) and one in postgraduate year two (PGY-2), aid in day-to-day patient care and assist with most surgeries. Residents may also participate in our division research efforts.
One or two NYU Grossman School of Medicine students and visiting medical students from other institutions fulfill a pediatric surgery rotation as part of their core surgery clerkship.
In addition, the Howard B. Ginsburg Endowed Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, accepts one trainee every other year.

Our surgeons have expertise treating a full range of general, abdominal, and thoracic pediatric conditions. We also provide specialized care in a variety of NYU Langone programs and centers including the following:
- Adolescent Weight Loss Surgery
