Medical Student Elective

The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology offers the following electives for medical students during the 2019-2020:

General Dermatology Elective (Course #03-01)

During the elective, the student will be exposed to the many aspects of dermatologic diagnosis and treatment by actively participating in the ambulatory and inpatient programs. The elective is conducted in all three departmental services: The Skin and Cancer Unit at the Ambulatory Care Center, Bellevue Hospital Medical Center and the New York Harbor Healthcare System - Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital. There is an in-depth lecture series and teaching conferences daily. At the end of the general dermatology elective, students will be able to properly perform a history and physical examination of patients with skin diseases, recognize and treat common skin conditions, and determining when it is appropriate to refer patients to Dermatologists or other specialists and skin morphology will be used as a method to generate a differential diagnosis.
