Department of Medicine 18th Annual Research Day

Save the Date – April 29, 2019

The Department of Medicine will hold its 18th Annual Research Day on Monday, April 29, 2019 in the Smilow Research Center. This year’s Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Scott Friedman, Dean for Therapeutic Discovery, Chief of the Division of Liver Diseases and Professor of Medicine and Pharmacological Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Friedman has performed pioneering research into the underlying causes liver fibrosis associated with chronic liver disease. This work has formed the basis for new anti-fibrotic clinical trials for liver disease. Dr. Friedman has been widely recognized for his pioneering research, including election into the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the American Association for the Advancement for Science.

The afternoon featured lecture will be delivered by Dr. Andrew Hamilton, President of New York University. A chemist by training, Dr. Hamilton's research lies at the intersection of organic and biologic chemistry, with a particular focus on the use of synthetic design for the understanding, mimicry, and potential disruption of biological processes. Dr. Hamilton is a Fellow of the Royal Society, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the recipient of the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society, and the winner of the International Izatt-Christiansen Award for Macrocyclic Chemistry.

Students, residents, fellows and junior faculty are encouraged to submit abstracts of their original research for poster presentation. Submissions can be made by clicking through to the Research Day Abstract Submission Form. The deadline for submission is March 8, 2019. This year, we will feature a handful of the most highly rated submissions, by inviting authors to give short ultra-rapid (3 minute) oral summaries of their findings immediately before the Lunchtime Poster Session..
Please mark your calendars – April 29, 2019!
