The Eye in FD

Status: Recruiting

The Eye in Familial Dysautonomia and Other Hereditary Neuropathies (longitudinal study): We have a state of the art laboratory to conduct research into the eye. In recent years, this work has lead to a clearer understanding of the cause of visual loss in patients with familial dysautonomia. We have shown that patients with FD have a progressive loss of nerves in the retina, and it is this particular pattern of nerve fiber loss that causes the decline in visual acuity overtime. We are continuing this work to understand more about the eye in familial dysautonomia and how it changes over time. We hope to develop strategies to preserve and enhance vision. We are also studying the eye in other hereditary neuropathies.

Eligibility: The study is open to people with familial dysautonomia of any age.
