NE Transporter Blockade in OH

Status: Complete

Norepinephrine Transporter Blockade in Neurogenic Orthostatic Hypotension. Diseases that affect the autonomic nervous system include pure autonomic failure, multiple system atrophy and Parkinson disease. These can present with very similar symptoms such that it is sometimes difficult to determine an exact diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to determine if the blood pressure response from taking a single dose of the medication atomoxetine could aid in the diagnosis of these diseases. This study was part of the Autonomic Disorders Consortium in collaboration with Italo Biaggioni, MD (Vanderbilt University).

Eligibility: The study was open to people with orthostatic hypotension associated with pure autonomic failure, multiple system atrophy or Parkinson disease.
