The department, under the auspices of the NYU School of Medicine, conducts one of the largest plastic surgery and postdoctoral dental residency educational programs in the world. In addition to the ACGME approved six-year residency in plastic surgery, post-residency fellowships are offered in craniofacial surgery, craniofacial orthodontics, aesthetic surgery, hand surgery and microsurgery. A formal curriculum, sponsored by the department, includes weekly lectures and conferences, as well as endowed lectureships. The department also offers multiple postgraduate courses for practicing plastic surgeons. At the undergraduate level there is the NYU Plastic Surgery Club, and medical student rotations are offered at the third and fourth year levels. Other educational programs including brochures, videos, animations, and seminars are designed at the department for patients and families with various plastic surgical conditions.
