Be Certain: Get Tested for Hepatitis B

A Community-Academic Partnership to Encourage Hepatitis B Screening in NYC’s Chinese and Korean Communities

On June 12th, 2012, B Free CEED: National Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Hepatitis B Disparities  officially unveiled the Be Certain: Get Tested for Hepatitis B city-wide campaign, to raise hepatitis B awareness, decrease hepatitis B-related stigma, and encourage at-risk communities to know their hepatitis B status by getting tested. A community-academic partnership funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, B Free CEED is made up of the Center for the Study of Asian American Health at NYU School of Medicine, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, and Korean Community Services of Metro NY, Inc. Working with APartnership, an award winning NYC Asian-serving marketing agency, B Free CEED released a 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) available in Mandarin and Korean with English subtitles, and  print ads in Chinese, Korean, and English.

The  event at Flushing Town Hall  included remarks from New York State Assembly Member Grace Meng and New York City Council Member Peter Koo to lend their support for NYC hepatitis B screening initiatives. The event also included presentations from Dr. Nuna Kim, physician at Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Nirah Johnson, Community Projects Specialist at the NYC Department of Health’s Office of Viral Hepatitis Coordination, and Jeannie Yuen, CEO/President of APartnership. Both versions of the PSA, in Mandarin and Korean, were shown at the event."
