Section for Health Equity Conferences & Events
The NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH), at NYU Langone’s Section for Health Equity in the Department of Population Health, hosts a biennial conference on promoting health equity that brings together community members, clinical providers, students, researchers, and policy makers. Our conference explores key challenges and opportunities facing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (NH/PI) immigrant communities in New York City.
In addition, ongoing seminars and symposia aim to address health disparities in the Asian American and NH/PI community in real time. These seminar series provide valuable resources and information for healthcare professionals, students, and community members to learn about and better understand the health concerns and challenges specific to these populations.
Sustaining Momentum: Community Action and Health Equity Research
On Monday June 3rd and Tuesday June 4th, 2024, CSAAH, in partnership with the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) and with support from AARP, will partner to host our 11th Biennial Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (NH/PI) Health Conference. This event will highlight the current state of health equity research focused in Asian American and NH/PI populations, featuring the theme, "Sustaining Momentum: community action and health equity research."
There have been a number of new, exciting efforts focused on advancing health research that reaches all populations and bolstering data equity in Asian American and NH/PI populations across the United States. Much of this collaborative work is being led by community leaders and researchers using community-informed and community engaged approaches. The 2024 conference asks the question: how might we, collectively, navigate a way forward within the current world and research paradigms, to activate and sustain a new generation of community advocates, researchers, and partnerships, and build community-led, community-centered efforts to shape research leadership and sustain community health and connection? We will present this event virtually across two days.
Our conference will highlight community resilience, growth, and self-determination emerges out of collaborative and sustained efforts to advance health equity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities through virtual panel talks, speaker sessions, and a flash presentation series. It typically features a series of brief, engaging talks on the work being done to address health disparities and to achieve health equity in racial and ethnic minority and other communities experiencing health disparities; a panel discussion on controversies in population health; a listening session on community perspectives of research; and a poster session and awards ceremony.
