Psychology Postdoctoral Program
The Department of Psychiatry's Psychology Postdoctoral Program offers extensive opportunities designed to advance clinical expertise and professional growth. Led by Rachel Guerrero, PhD, and Jessica B. Stern, PhD, the program provides postdoctoral fellows with hands-on experience conducting psychiatric intakes and providing individual, group, and couples psychotherapy under expert supervision.
Although primarily clinical in nature, the fellowship promotes scholarly engagement and critical thinking, preparing fellows to be reflective practitioners and leaders in the field.
About Our Program
During the yearlong program, fellows see patients through our outpatient faculty group practice, NYU Langone Psychiatry Associates. They also co-lead a psychotherapy group with a faculty member and meet with faculty for weekly supervision.
Postdoctoral fellows participate in weekly, expert-led didactic seminars that cover advanced topics in psychotherapy, ethics, diversity, and evidence-based care. Fellows are encouraged to attend NYU Langone’s Psychiatry Grand Rounds, where they are exposed to the newest research, innovative clinical practices, and emerging developments in the field of mental health. These experiences foster a strong connection between science and practice, ensuring that fellows remain at the forefront of the discipline.
Fellows have the option to concentrate in dialectical behavior therapy or couples therapy training.
The fellowship operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-person and remote days during the week.
Clinical Training
Postdoctoral fellows integrate evidence-based practice with clinical expertise, ensuring that each patient receives the highest quality of individualized, ethical, and compassionate care. Fellows gain clinical experience in the following areas:
- anxiety disorders
- attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- autism spectrum disorder
- depressive disorders
- eating disorders
- neuropsychological disorders
- personality disorders
- relationship problems
- sleep disorders
- trauma-related disorders
- women’s health
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
NYU Langone Psychiatry Associates encourages state-of-the-art treatment, collaboration, and professional growth. Fellows learn from and work closely with our psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, allowing for integrated assessment and treatment planning. The fellowship also offers rich collaboration with a range of specialists across NYU Langone, including primary care, neurology, and internal medicine.
This multidisciplinary model provides fellows with exposure to diverse clinical perspectives, fostering competence in team-based care, consultation, and systems-level collaboration.
