Lerner Holistic Integrative Health Nursing Fellowship Health Equity Scholars

The candidate who receives the designation of Health Equity Scholar in the Lerner Holistic Integrative Health Nursing Fellowship will be guided by a mission to promote equity in health outcomes; create a culture of inclusive excellence in nursing; and lead in the development, implementation, and dissemination of holistic, evidence-based solutions in health equity, aligned with the mission of NYU Langone’s Institute for Excellence in Health Equity.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria. Please see the National Institutes of Health’s Notice of Interest in Diversity for more details.

  • individuals from racial and ethnic groups that have been shown by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in health-related sciences and biomedical research on a national basis as follows: Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander
  • individuals with disabilities, who are defined as those with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as described in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
  • individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, defined as those who meet two or more criteria in the NIH’s Notice of Interest in Diversity.

Candidates should possess demonstrated leadership skills and a dedication to promoting the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Candidates should show a commitment to launching a health equity initiative in a vulnerable or underserved population (pages 15 to 16) that employs a holistic strategy to tackle health disparities and obstacles affecting overall health and wellbeing.

External candidates must have support from their institution for participation in the fellowship, demonstrated by submission of the Institutional Letter of Support with their application.

Application and Notification

Candidates can apply for this designation with their fellowship application. Applications are due by October 1. Recipients will be notified by November.

External recipients of this designation will receive a full-tuition waiver to the fellowship.
