Research Electives and Fellowship Opportunities

Symposium participants, cardiology fellows, and program director, Eugenia Gianos, MD, 2014.

The NYU Langone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease offers a one-year, non-accredited training program. The fellowship provides learning in both primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease through our advanced lipid and hypertension clinics, outpatient cardiovascular prevention clinic, inpatient cardiovascular prevention consultation, journal club sessions, case discussions and opportunities for research. The training sites include Tisch Hospital and Bellevue Hospital in both inpatient and outpatient care settings. This patient population affords an opportunity to learn from patients of various backgrounds with differing genetic components to their cardiovascular disease states as well as varying socioeconomic issues that affect their lifestyles.  There is no call required and weekdays are generally from 8am-6pm.   The fellowship offers numerous research opportunities.  Read about our current clinical trials and laboratory research initiatives here

Participants are given the opportunity to complete advanced courses in lipid management, including the National Lipid Association’s Lipid Academy. In addition, the prevention fellows are encouraged to pursue certification in clinical Lipidology through the National Lipid Society and complete the hypertension specialist certification through the American Society of Hypertension.

The Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease includes experts from subspecialties including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, women’s heart disease, clotting disorders and integrative medicine.  These experts are thought-leaders in their respective fields and all contribute to the fellow's education.

Since its inception in 2010, the Preventive Cardiology Fellowship has boasted nine accomplished graduates with successful cardiovascular medicine careers.  Read more about our past fellows’ accomplishments here.
