Diversity Programs

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is dedicated to providing medical students who are underrepresented minorities and women the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the field of orthopaedic surgery.

The J. Serge and May Parisien Medical Student Scholarship

Through the generosity of J. Serge and May Parisien, the Department has established two scholarships for fourth-year medical students to supplement the cost of travel and living in New York City during a one-month clinical clerkship in orthopaedic surgery.

The Department Committee on Diversity will evaluate applications and award two $1250 scholarships to deserving medical students.

Applicants should first apply to an Orthopaedic Surgery rotation via the NYU School of Medicine registrar at http://www.med.nyu.edu/registrar/elective-catalogue/orthopaedic-surgery/introduction-orthopaedic-surgery and then download the Diversity Scholarship Application below. Instructions on submission and contact information are included in the application:

In order to receive the scholarship, the applicant must be accepted as a rotating medical student in a regular 4 week rotation, be from an accredited American allopathic medical school, be in good standing academically and complete the clerkship.

Department Diversity Grants

In addition to the Parisien Scholarship, the Department allocates funds on a yearly basis to fund diversity students for the fourth year clerkship and the summer externship program.
