Clinical Psychology Post Doctoral Fellowship – New Jersey

NYU Grossman School of Medicine offers a 12-month Clinical Psychology Post Doctoral Fellowship within the NYU Child Study Center – New Jersey at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone.

Our postdoctoral fellowship, offered through NYU Langone’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, is intended for psychologists who have successfully completed an American Psychological Association–approved internship and wish to refine their clinical and therapeutic skills.

Post Doctoral Fellows report to Justin R. Misurell, PhD, Site Director for the Child Study Center – New Jersey.

Fellowship Training

As a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the NYU Child Study Center, New Jersey Campus, your experience will encompass four core clinical training areas and specialties within which you will conduct individualized assessments and provide behavioral and cognitive therapies and consultations.

  • Experience in the delivery of empirically supported treatments for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and related disorders who have organizational skills deficits, and for children with selective mutism and other anxiety disorders, supervised by Richard Gallagher, PhD, Director of the Organizational Skills Training Program and Founder of the Selective Mutism Service.
  • Emphasis in the delivery of comprehensive Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for children and adolescents, which will be provided by Giselle Colorado, PsyD, DBT Service Coordinator, Child Study Center – New Jersey.
  • Training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, disruptive behaviors and OCD and compulsive habit disorders, which will be provided by Justin Misurell, PhD, Site Director, Child Study Center – New Jersey.
  • Participation in evidence-based group therapy programming for youth (e.g., children with social skills deficits, children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), etc.), under the supervision of Corrine McCarthy, PsyD.

Fellows will be trained in Game-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (GB-CBT) for childhood anxiety and disruptive behavior disorders and in therapeutic interventions for families impacted by high conflict divorce. All interventions will involve extensive opportunities for the fellow to enhance their skills working with individuals and their families. Fellows will also receive the opportunity to collaborate with professionals in school settings.

In addition to these clinical responsibilities, the fellow will attend weekly Grand Rounds, attend and assist in the coordination of seminars, and will be expected to present assessment and treatment cases at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s interdisciplinary case conference. In addition, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in journal clubs, and other specialty trainings in areas of personal interest.

Fellows may also be involved with conducting webinars, media appearances, workshops, seminars, and professional development events in New Jersey schools and other environments.

Fellows also have opportunities to train and teach junior-level psychology trainees.

As a post-doctoral fellow, you will gain advanced knowledge of diagnostic evaluation, treatment, and consultation and will be eligible for state licensure upon completion of your fellowship. Opportunities for hybrid work remain available as currently our trainees and faculty offer services, attend training and administrative meetings both in-person and virtually.
