Observation Medicine Education

A dedicated observation unit bridging emergency medicine and internal medicine is a core concept in modern healthcare. NYU Langone’s Division of Observation Medicine has created an observation medicine curriculum to educate future clinicians in this emerging field and provide our trainees with the most up-to-date academic opportunities.

Observation Medicine Elective

Our Observation Medicine Elective allows residents in emergency medicine or internal medicine to join our team of physicians and advanced practice providers and experience our unique specialty. In two- or four-week rotations, residents learn how to appropriately triage patients to different levels of care and how to manage complex medical problems in a fast-paced environment.

By the end of the elective, residents have a broader understanding of what observation medicine is and develop insight into different fields of acute medicine, making them more well-rounded physicians. They also gain the confidence and skill set to practice this aspect of medicine when they become attending physicians.

Residents interested in applying can submit an Observation Medicine Elective application.
