Division of Biostatistics Clinical Trials Pillar

The Clinical Trials Research Pillar in the Division of Biostatistics is at the forefront of innovative clinical trial design and execution, with faculty leading data coordinating center grants across various areas of medicine. The group collaborates with the institution’s Center for Multisite Clinical Studies to transform ideas into robust multicenter clinical trial proposals. Research areas include platform trial design, monitoring, and analysis, with a focus on the utility of shared control groups, and Bayesian methods for interim monitoring and effect estimation. Faculty also advance strategies for incorporating novel biomarkers, develop methodologies for cluster-randomized and stepped-wedge trials in implementation science, and refine risk-based monitoring procedures and tools.

Other key areas of focus include meta-analysis, interim monitoring of ongoing randomized trials, and drug efficacy and safety trials supporting FDA New Drug Applications (NDAs). The team also specializes in designing trials for assessing cancer immunotherapies and developing approaches for N-of-1 trials and the aggregation of their data. Together, these efforts reflect the group’s commitment to advancing clinical trial methodologies to improve patient outcomes and inform regulatory decision-making.
