Last fall marked the official launch of the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program at the NYU Langone Medical Center under the surgical and medical leadership of Drs. Leora Balsam and Alex Reyentovich, as well as Dr. Stuart Katz and a large multidisciplinary team. The VAD Program was initiated to provide the full scope of medical and surgical advanced life sustaining therapies to patients with acute and end-stage chronic heart failure.

Last month the program was officially awarded VAD Specialty Certification, without any additional recommendations for improvement, after undergoing a rigorous two day Joint Commission inspection. The program provides a full spectrum of services, including full transplant evaluation as well bridge and destination VAD therapy.
