2018 Symposium

The annual Ion Channels and Immunity Symposium at NYU Langone provides a unique opportunity for scientists studying ion channels and transporters in immune cells to discuss their research on the regulation, function, and physiological roles of ion channels in innate and adaptive immunity.

The first international Ion Channels and Immunity Symposium took place at NYU Langone on December 3, 2018.

Leading scientists from academia and industry discussed their latest research. Pre- and postdoctoral trainees from the United States and Europe presented posters on a variety of topics including the regulation and function of ion channels and transporters in cells of the innate and adaptive immune system.

Session Topics:

Ion channels in immune cell development and function
Speakers: Michael D. Cahalan, PhD, Bimal N. Desai, PhD, Janet Chou, MD, Daniela Buccella, PhD

Ion channels in immunity and inflammation
Speakers: Michael Lenardo, MD, Stephen Jameson, PhD, Stefan Feske, MD, Susan R. Schwab, PhD

Anticancer immunity
Speakers: J. Kevin Foskett, PhD, George Miller, MD, Laura Conforti, PhD, Minsoo Kim, PhD

Drug targets for immunotherapy
Speakers: Christine Beeton, PhD, Edward Y. Skolnik, MD, Kenneth A. Stauderman, PhD, Anant Parekh, PhD

Marine Biology Labs, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

Organizers: Stefan Feske (New York University), Bimal Desai (University of Virginia)

This is the first international conference dedicated to research on Ion channels and Transporters in Immunity that will be attended by scientists from all over the world. It will provide a unique opportunity to discuss research on the regulation, function and physiological roles of ion channels in innate and adaptive immunity. Registration and abstract submission open in the spring of 2020.

Session Topics:

Ion Channelopathies Causing Immunodeficiency
Ion Channels and Ionic Signals in Innate Immunity
Ion Channels and Transporters Regulating Immunometabolism
Ca2+ Channels as Regulators of Adapative Immunity
Ion Channels in Macrophage and Neutrophil Function
