Hematology & Medical Oncology Conferences for Fellows

The many clinical and research seminars and didactics offered at NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center complement the hands-on training you receive as a hematology and medical oncology fellow. Additional conferences are available through NYU Grossman School of Medicine, NYU, and our colleague institutions in New York City.

Core Lecture Series

Through our core lecture series, fellows learn about cancer diagnosis, disease staging, and treatments for hematological and oncological conditions. You also are exposed to topics in clinical research design, molecular biology, and palliative care. The series includes lectures on hematological and oncological emergencies; chemotherapy; and “How I Treat,” a primer on basic malignancies. Attendance is mandatory for first- and second-year fellows.

Hematology Management Conference and Oncology Tumor Board

At our hematology management conference and oncology tumor board, fellows present cases that they have seen—preferably, cases involving difficult diagnoses or management issues—and pathologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, and surgical oncologists interpret supportive data. Hematology management conferences take place on Thursday mornings, and the oncology tumor board is on Friday mornings.

Journal Club

With assistance from faculty, an assigned fellow selects and presents clinical- or research-based medical journal articles that have a broad impact or are clinically informative. These presentations take place twice a month during the Thursday morning hematology management conference and Friday morning oncology tumor board. In the spring, second- and third-year fellows present their research projects at the Perlmutter Cancer Center faculty lunch.

Division Grand Rounds

Invited speakers present at the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology grand rounds, which are held once a month in place of the hematology management conference or oncology tumor board.

Perlmutter Cancer Center Faculty Lunch

All hematology and medical oncology fellows are invited to join the faculty for this weekly lunch series, where cancer center members or invited speakers give lectures on their research or clinical expertise.

Perlmutter Cancer Center Research Seminars

Perlmutter Cancer Center’s weekly lectures and seminars inform healthcare professionals about the latest advances in cancer research and treatment. Speakers from all over the country present the latest information about basic research and clinical care. Seminars are held each Wednesday at Perlmutter Cancer Center. All seminars offer Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education credit.

Below is a sample of the conference schedule. Conferences are held at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue or at NYU Langone’s Tisch Hospital or Perlmutter Cancer Center. Sessions with an asterisk (and highlighted in green) are required conferences. The remaining conferences are encouraged but only required if they are an elective in the specific disease management group.
