Research Support Units for Neurology
The Office of Science and Research (OSR) at NYU Langone Health, led by the vice dean for science, oversees the institution’s research enterprise. OSR comprises administrative units that manage grant proposal submissions, study conduct, regulatory oversight, research education, and technology commercialization. OSR plays a central role in advancing NYU Langone’s scientific mission by providing strategic leadership, infrastructure, and resources that promote responsible, high-impact research.
The following OSR units provide resources and support to help researchers set up and maintain their research while ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. These units may be highly beneficial to Department of Neurology researchers.
Research Grant Submissions
Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) works closely with principal investigators and administrators to ensure the successful submission of grant proposals, including electronic submissions to the National Institutes of Health and other federal sponsors.
Institutional Review Board (IRB)
NYU Langone’s Human Research Protections (HRP), which includes IRB Operations, facilitates the review of human subjects research at NYU Langone and our affiliates. Its website includes an IRB template library, which provides standard templates for protocols, forms, and waivers, and guidance for human subject research (Kerberos ID and password required).
Quality Improvement and Assurance
Quality Improvement and Assurance (QIA) helps researchers maintain regulatory compliance and the highest standards in human subject research. The QIA provides access to regulatory binder resources, including templates and guidance to help develop and organize study-related documents and correspondence (Kerberos ID and password required). QIA also conducts quality improvement and assurance for ongoing research to strengthen safeguards for study participants.
Clinical Research Support Unit
NYU Langone’s Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU) oversees the financial administration of clinical research studies, including studies supported by our industry sponsors. The CRSU’s website offers training, resources for study submission, and fee schedules (Kerberos ID and password required).
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees the responsible use of vertebrate animals in research and instructional activities at NYU Langone Health. Learn about IACUC updates, protocol information, and job aids for researchers and staff conducting animal research (Kerberos ID and password required).
Institutional Biosafety Committee
NYU Langone’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for ensuring that researchers conducting experiments involving the use of potentially hazardous biological materials adhere to the policies and guidelines on the use of these agents. Learn more about IBC guidelines and resources for researchers and staff conducting research with potentially hazardous biological materials (Kerberos ID and password required).
Research Contracting
OSR Contracts works with study teams to ensure all necessary contracts are in place before beginning work on a research study. They draft, review, negotiate, and sign agreements and contracts associated with sponsored research projects and industry and nonindustry clinical trials.
Research Commercialization
Technology Opportunities and Ventures (TOV) offers services to translate ideas into innovative products and to file and maintain patents that protect these inventions. Researchers interested in commercializing their ideas or in partnering with industry to conduct research should email TOVCommunications@NYULangone.org.
NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Research
Access research guidance and tips for our study teams who are considering using NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue as a research site (Kerberos ID and password required).
