Neurosurgery Mentorship Program
At NYU Grossman School of Medicine, when a medical student develops an interest in one or more fields of medicine, we encourage that student to request a mentor or sponsor who is an attending physician in that field. If you are trying to decide whether to become a neurosurgeon, we can make a member of our department available to assist you with that decision.
Once you have an assigned mentor, you meet with him or her periodically to ask questions and discuss potential research projects. Mentors also coordinate visits to office hours, rounds, and the operating room as desired. When Match time approaches, mentors assist you with writing personal statements and help you choose where to apply, where and when to perform subinternships, and whom to obtain reference letters from.
