Center for Psychedelic Medicine Education & Training

At NYU Langone’s Center for Psychedelic Medicine, we are passionate about providing outstanding educational experiences both within and outside the research context, and are committed to disseminating accurate information about the clinical use of psychedelics. We work to advance the field of psychedelic medicine by providing training opportunities for the next generation of scientists and clinicians in the field.

Our center is a leader in the development and implementation of psychotherapeutic approaches that can be effectively and efficiently integrated with the administration of psychedelic medications and provides training for therapists who administer these treatments in the context of clinical trials. Our investigators also provide education to the public through the dissemination of research findings and reliable information about the potential benefits and harms of these medications.

Research Training

The Psychedelic Medicine Research Training Program provides education, mentorship, training opportunities, and pilot funding to support promising new investigators. Learn about this cutting-edge training program for early-career researchers.

If you are a current NYU Grossman School of Medicine medical student or psychiatry resident and would like to be involved in research conducted at the Center for Psychedelic Medicine, we want to hear from you! Medical students should first reach out to Molly E. Poag, MD, director of medical student education in the Department of Psychiatry, to learn more about opportunities for summer research projects and scholarly concentrations at the center.

Clinical Training

We offer study-specific trainings and clinical supervision for clinicians who are affiliated with a Center for Psychedelic Medicine clinical research project. We are not currently offering psychedelic therapy training experiences for clinicians who are not already affiliated with the center.

We offer a small number of internship positions for MSW and MHC students at graduate programs affiliated with the center. We do not offer externships (first-year placements). These second-year internships are competitive. Interested students should contact their internship placement director at their graduate program to make the initial inquiry. They should also prepare a CV and a letter of interest, to be sent to the center via their internship placement director. Although we do not accept students during their first year, we strongly recommend that their first-year placement be clinically oriented.

If you are a current NYU Grossman School of Medicine psychiatry resident and would like to be involved as a psychedelic therapist on one of our clinical trials, we want to hear from you! Please reach out to PsychedelicMedicine@NYULangone.org to learn more about the opportunities and training required. Please note that, in addition to psychedelic-specific trainings we will provide for study therapists, we strongly encourage that NYU Grossman School of Medicine residents interested in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy participate in the electives Integrative Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Care when offered.

Continuing Education

Center team members are actively involved in the following continuing education (CE) opportunities.

Psychedelic Medicine Course

We offer a CE/continuing medical education (CME) course entitled Psychedelic Medicine. The day-long course includes both cutting-edge research and clinically useful content presented by outstanding faculty within and outside the Center for Psychedelic Medicine. External faculty in recent years have included Gül Dölen, Natalie Gukasyan, Peter Hendricks, Jennifer Mitchell, Michael and Annie Mithoefer, Charles Raison, and more. Bookmark this page to learn more details about the 2025 course when registration opens later this year.

Curricular Materials

We are part of a tri-institutional consortium tasked with developing curricular materials for medical students and psychiatry residents, to prepare them for the coming age of psychedelic medicine. We will begin beta-testing curricular materials in mid-2024, with a longer-term goal of developing an intensive clinical training program at the fellowship level. Stay tuned for more details.
