Description: Led by director George Jour, MD, NYU Langone’s Department of Pathology offers one, one-year post-residency fellowship positions in molecular and genetic pathology. Our fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

As a molecular pathology fellow, trainees gain hands-on experience in a variety of both solid and liquid neoplasms and constitutional genetic diseases. This is achieved through rotation at NYU Langone’s Ambulatory Care Center, Clinical Genetic Services, Microbiology Laboratory, Center for Human Genetics and Genomics and the Laura Perlmutter Cancer Center High Risk Program clinics.

The fellowship is designed to train well-rounded molecular genetic pathologist who can assist both clinicians and patients with appropriate medical and laboratory knowledge and experience. In addition, the staff and program are keen on providing a nurturing environment for clinician-scientist who are interested in pursuing Translational research or Bioinformatics focused research. The Fellows are expected to collaborate in intra-departmental research projects as well as inter-departmental and inter-institutional projects.

The fellow is expected to submit a research work for the yearly meeting of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) in the form of a platform/ oral presentations or posters. The fellow will be encouraged to attend the AMP review course for MGP boards. The fellow is expected to finish a manuscript/submission of the research that is being conducted by the end of his/her fellowship to a scientific journal. Fellows are highly encouraged to explore areas of interest (e.g. basic science, translation research, bioinformatics, etc.) with faculty mentorship within pathology and from other specialties (genetics, etc.).

A block of one month is dedicated to research to provide sufficient time for these activities

Requirements: Applicants should be board eligible in AP or AP/CP. MUST hold a NY State License/Limited Permit prior to the start date. Please inquire with the Program Manager.

Visas: Visas: NYU only offers J-1 visas through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to candidates in need of visa sponsorship.

Stipends: Commensurate with the level of training.
