Description
This is a 2-week elective that seeks to introduce students to the field of Medical Oncology. Students will be expected to gain a broad understanding of the core principles, foundational knowledge, and essential skills relevant to the specialty through encounters with a diverse range of oncologic cases. Students will gain this experience by participating fully in the clinical, educational, and research activities within the Division of Oncology and the Department of Medicine.
Students will participate in the consultation and care of our patients at Bellevue Hospital under the supervision of a Medical Oncology Fellow and an Attending Physician in Medical Oncology. In addition, they will have the opportunity to gain outpatient oncology experience at the oncology clinics at the Perlmutter Cancer Center, Bellevue Hospital, and VA Hospital. Finally, a variety of didactic conferences are available, including the Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Conference, which covers a wide spectrum of subspecialty areas, ranging from breast to lung to gynecologic malignancies.
In addition, students will be given the option to further tailor their educational experience if they are interested. For example, those who might have a special interest in a particular oncology subspecialty, or those who might wish to see more of the cutting-edge research being conducted at the Perlmutter Cancer Center, can email the course preceptor ahead of time and we will make every effort to accommodate.
