The Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Innovation is advancing quality of care by educating physicians and faculty who are engaged in innovative research to improve health outcomes. We have a large and growing portfolio of extramural funding. Core research domains include Patient Safety, Shared Decision Making, Practice Management, Medical Education, Hospital Medicine, Obesity, and Transformation of Care.

Our faculty collaborates with other departments to conduct research related to comparative effectiveness, cost effectiveness, post-operative care, behavioral economics, informatics and e-technology, chronic disease and substance abuse prevention and treatment, and immigrant health.

We strive to be an integrated community of investigators that generates high impact research by bringing diverse approaches and methodologies to bear on advancing individual and population health, supported by such shared resources as practice based research networks, large observational databases, innovative educational assessments, virtual cohort studies, and integrated research capacities across the IT platforms of our diverse hospital systems.
