HK gives Grand Rounds in FD

Dr. Horacio Kaufmann was invited to Albert Einstein’s Montefiore Hospital to give Grand Rounds in Neurology on FD. His talk began by describing the origin of FD gene mutation within the Pale of Settlement and the appearance of FD cases in NY City.

He described how the gene mutation affects the development of mostly the sensory (afferent) nerves and how this lack of sensation gives rise to the clinical features of FD. He spoke about the work of the Center and how researchers are quickly uncovering the neurological basis for FD. He ended by telling the audience how, in recent years, these findings have translated into treatment trials at the Center.
