Cytopathology Fellowship

The fellowship for academic year 2022-2023 has been filled.

Director: Aylin Simsir, M.D., Professor of Pathology / Fine Needle Aspiration, Breast and Cervical Cancer

Description: Two fellowships. Two positions are available for a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship in Cytopathology at New York University School of Medicine. NYU’s teaching hospitals are the Bellevue Hospital, a 897-bed city hospital and NYU Tisch (725 beds) and Kimmel (375 beds) Hospitals, together comprising a state of the art quaternary/tertiary care center. NYU also has an NCI designated cancer center facility. The cytopathology laboratory has twelve full-time cytopathologists. It processes over 60,000 cases annually including over 6,000 fine needle aspirations (FNA) performed by cytopathologists. Fellows fully participate in the general cytopathology service including performance of palpable and ultrasound guided FNAs. Additionally, they assist at image guided FNAs of deep sites, and are responsible for the primary evaluation of all referred consultation cases.

Requirements: Completion of a three-year program in AP or a four-year program in AP/CP. MUST hold a NY State License/Limited Permit prior to the start date. Please inquire with the Program Manager.

Visas: NYU only offers J-1 visas through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to candidates in need of visa sponsorship.

Stipends: Commensurate with Candidate’s level of training.
