Faculty Teaching Portfolio
The faculty teaching portfolio guidelines provide an infrastructure to help you demonstrate your contributions and achievements for promotion considerations, annual department reviews, and mentoring and faculty development opportunities at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. We offer templates for creating your teaching portfolio (Kerberos ID and password required).
How to Create Your Faculty Teaching Portfolio
Our faculty and administration are committed to achieving and rewarding excellence and to supporting all members of our community, including researchers, clinicians, and educators.
We created the teaching portfolio to help you collect materials that showcase your academic achievements, research, teaching, and service. It was developed with direction from two Curriculum for the 21st Century task forces: Outcomes, Assessment, and New Metrics, and Faculty Recognition and Development.
Personal Statement and Long-Term Goals
Develop a reflective statement that describes how and why you do your job. Explain the role of your specialty area in your job, and clearly state your personal and professional goals.
Teaching Effort
Include teaching activities that showcase when you’ve facilitated learning in an educational setting. To describe efforts in curriculum development, highlight your contributions to the design of a specific learning module or experience.
Mentoring and Advising
Include examples of when you have mentored and advised medical students, residents, fellows, and other faculty. Describe your mentoring activities and include the mentees’ names, the nature of each mentoring activity, and the outcome of this supervision. For example, include any publications, presentations, theses, or grant awards that resulted from your efforts.
Administration and Leadership
Describe your role as a leader, coleader, or both, of clinical or educational programs.
Committees and Teaching Awards
Highlight any local or national committees on which you served as a member or held a leadership role. List teaching awards, and include the dates, names of sponsoring institutions, and relevant organization information. Briefly describe each award and the criteria you met to achieve it.
Optional Supporting Evidence
Faculty may append relevant material that falls outside of the scope of these categories or spans multiple categories. Include such information as integrated appendices, using a PDF format.
For additional guidance on the format, contact the Office of Faculty Records at facultyaffairs@nyulangone.org.
