Drs. Kazachkov and Giusti are distinguished mentors and role models for young physicians in training, many of whom become pediatric pulmonologists themselves. Kathryn Fitzgerald (Doctor of Nursing Practice) has been a mentor for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners in training for many years. Christine Mavaro, RN, has obtained the honorable title of “Mentor for CF Coordinators” from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Resident Training Program

Residents rotate through the Bellevue Hospital Chest Service during the second year of their residency program in Internal Medicine. Overseen by a second-year pulmonary fellow and pulmonary attendings, the rotation provides an intensive introduction to the management of tuberculosis, COPD, asthma, interstitial fibrosis, and many other pulmonary diseases. Rotations through the Bellevue, Tisch, and Veterans Affairs Intensive Care Units provide medical residents with intensive training in the management of critically ill patients. Residents can also take an elective in Bellevue's pulmonary consult service or pulmonary function laboratory, or participate in any of the division's ongoing clinical or basic science research studies.

The division also participates in a small rotation for 3rd year medical students as part of their pediatrics clerkship.

The division also offers a fellowship training program in pediatric pulmonology. It is a joint Fellowship with Winthrop.
