Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship

At NYU Langone, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology offers a three-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited fellowship. Through the pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiac surgical programs, fellows gain the skills they need to be leaders in pediatric cardiology and related subspecialties. Training principally takes place at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

Fellows acquire the education and technical expertise they need to care for children with cardiovascular diseases. They also have opportunities to contribute to scholarly research in the field.

Fellows learn to take patient histories and perform physical exams, and interpret radiography, echocardiography, 12-lead electrocardiography, stress test, ambulatory electrocardiography, and MRI and CT scan results. During training, fellows participate in a minimum of 100 cardiac catheterizations and 10 intracardiac electrophysiologic studies.

VIDEO: Our state-of-the-art facilities include the Congenital Cardiovascular Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Trainees develop expertise in the evaluation and pre- and postoperative care of pediatric surgical patients, and learn the principles of mechanical ventilation, resuscitation, cardioversion, pericardiocentesis, and temporary pacing. In addition, they learn to evaluate and manage outpatient pediatric cardiology patients.

Faculty teach fellows cardiovascular anatomy and pathology so that they develop an understanding of congenital and acquired heart diseases in children. Through lectures and hands-on training, they learn about anesthesiology, critical care, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac advanced imaging, adult congenital cardiology, and neonatology.
