Pediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology Electives for Residents & Medical Students

NYU Langone’s Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology encourages interested residents and medical students to participate in a two- or four-week elective that develops your understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of gastrointestinal conditions in infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Trainees learn about diagnosing and treating jaundice, diarrhea, constipation, feeding issues, inflammatory bowel disease, and liver disorders in children.

The clinical experience takes place at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, Fink Children’s Ambulatory Care Center, and NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Center East 38th Street. Trainees also participate in daily teaching rounds and treat patients in consultation with the pediatric gastroenterology attending.

Medical students must complete the core pediatrics clerkship before enrolling in the elective. An attending pediatric gastroenterologist serves as the preceptor and evaluates the work of students, along with a gastrointestinal nurse practitioner.
