NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Educator Community administers several awards intended to recognize and honor faculty for their efforts in medical education. In addition, we provide the forum to celebrate institutional, department-level, and external awards that faculty receive for their commitment and dedication as educators and scholars. Educator Community Awards
We award the following honors to members of the NYU Langone Health faculty.
Excellence in Educational Innovation Award
The Excellence in Educational Innovation Award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding leadership and achievement in the design and delivery of innovative methods for teaching, learning, evaluation, and assessment.
Excellence in Educational Scholarship Award
The Excellence in Educational Scholarship Award recognizes faculty who have a distinguished record of educational scholarship, including research and broad dissemination of innovative approaches to teaching and assessment.
Distinction in Education Award
The Distinction in Education Award recognizes outstanding faculty member who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of program leadership, faculty development, teaching, mentoring, and other service in medical or biomedical education within our institution. Emphasis is placed on institutional and cross-departmental collaboration and impact.
Rising Educator Award
The Rising Educator Award recognizes early-career faculty members who serve as role models in education and who demonstrate leadership, commitment, and achievement in the design and delivery of medical or biomedical education or both.
Award for Excellence in Student Development
The Award for Excellence in Student Development recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to fostering the professional growth of medical students through innovative and inclusive mentoring, coaching, and advising. This award highlights significant contributions to the personal and career development of medical students within our institution.
Award for Excellence in Resident/Fellow Development
The Award for Excellence in Resident/Fellow Development recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to fostering the professional growth of residents/fellows through innovative and inclusive mentoring, coaching, and advising. This award highlights significant contributions to the personal and career development of residents and fellows within our institution.

UME Pre-Clerkship Educator of the Year
The Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Pre-Clerkship Educator of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment and engagement, and faculty who serve as role models for classroom-based medical school education. The process for identifying awardees in this category is overseen by the Office of Medical Education.
UME Clerkship Educator of the Year
The UME Clerkship Educator of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment and engagement, and faculty who serve as role models for bedside education and the teaching of medical students. The process for identifying awardees in this category is overseen by the Office of Medical Education.
GME Program Director of the Year
The Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Director of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment, and engagement in the education of our residents and trainees. The process for identifying awardees in this category is overseen by the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
Office of Diversity Affairs’ Diversity in Education Award
The Diversity in Education Award, sponsored by the Office of Diversity Affairs, recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions in promoting social justice and health equity in medical education, fosters an inclusive clinical learning and teaching environment, and serves as a role model.
Best Medical Education Collaboration
The Best Medical Education Collaboration Award recognizes outstanding collaboration across UME, GME, and faculty development. The process for identifying awardees is overseen by leadership in the Office of Medical Education and Education, Faculty, and Academic Affairs.
