ADHD & Early Childhood Externship
Through the Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity and Behavior Disorders Service, our externs gain experience treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and disruptive behavior disorders in children and teens. Our service has a strong emphasis on evidence-based treatment, including the provision of empirically supported treatments and reliance on clinically significant data to plan interventions and assess treatment gains. Because patients frequently present with comorbidity, our externs also gain experience with anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders, and other conditions. We encourage externs to collaborate with numerous other clinical services at the Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone.
This combined externship also offers experience in our Perinatal and Early Childhood Mental Health Service, working with families of children aged five years and younger who have social, emotional, and other developmental concerns. Our externs gain experience using age-appropriate assessment and interviewing skills, collaborating with other providers, observing children with their parents and in school, and providing treatments that frequently include parents and children together in session. Our service emphasizes a behavioral and developmentally sensitive approach to intervention.
Additional details regarding this externship offering can be found within the Externship Site Directory for the Northeastern Regional Externship Match. Learn more on our site listing for the 2026–27 training year.
