Neuropsychology & Learning Service Externship

The Child Study Center seeks experienced graduate students to complete a yearlong emphasis in the Neuropsychology and Learning Service externship at our Manhattan office. The position primarily involves performing neuropsychological, psycho-diagnostic, and developmental evaluations. Patient populations include children with various learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder with comorbid learning problems, and other neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions affecting cognitive development and learning. The extern will be required to administer, score, and engage in collaborative interpretation of diagnostic patterns with their supervisor or supervisors, and then write reports based on test results.

Externs will also participate in parent intake and parent and (potential) child feedback sessions. Opportunities to supplement clinical evaluation through classroom observations, school visits, and learning advocacy in school meetings (e.g., IEP meetings) may also be available. Externs also have opportunities to attend a brain lab, engage in fact-finding and neuropsychology/neurology didactics, and participate in offerings provided by the Child Study Center (e.g., grand rounds, case presentations, summer workshops). The externship follows a proficiency-based model in accordance with Houston and proposed Minnesota training guidelines.

Lauren B. Fiedler, PsyD, and David Sukiennik, PsyD, are the primary coordinators of our externship at our Manhattan office. Daniela Montalto, PhD, is the clinical director of the overall Neuropsychology and Learning Service.

We are accepting applications for two extern positions at our New York City campus. Additional details regarding this externship offering can be found within the Externship Site Directory for the Northeastern Regional Externship Match. Learn more on our site listing for the 2026–27 training year.
